Charities

100% of the proceeds from the 2010 Greater Orlando Fitness Challenge will be distributed evenly between the following two local charities:

Greyhound Pets of America/Greater Orlando

Greyhound Pets of America/Greater Orlando is a non-profit corporation founded in 1996, as a chapter of the National Greyhound Pets of America organization. Our purpose is to find homes for ex-racing Greyhounds and to educate the public on the suitability and availability of Greyhounds as pets.

officeThe GPA office, adoption kennel and gift shop are located in Longwood, Florida. Our programs depend on donations to accomplish our wonderful mission. All funds go to our programs and our organization is comprised solely of volunteers.

Due to the huge growth of GPA/GO, we reorganized in 2003 with a Board of Directors and Officers to handle the extensive responsibilities involved in running GPA/GO smoothly.

suitesGPA/GO has a home of its own. Our Kennel houses 54 Greyhounds who are awaiting for their forever, loving homes. Over the past 14 years, GPA/GO has had the opportunity to place a few thousand Greyhounds through our Adoption Kennel.

crateOur goal is to find a home for every single retired racing Greyhound that needs one, and we need your help! Volunteers are always needed, sponsors are needed for our dogs, and supplies are also needed for the office and kennel.

For $120.00 per year ($10.00 per month), you can sponsor one of our kennel cuties.  Please go to our available Greys page and click on the sponsor link.  By pledging just $10.00, you will help us feed and take care of these retired racers while they wait for their forever homes.

The Lion's Club of Longwood/Lake Mary

 Ready to Help, Worldwide

Whenever a Lions club gets together, problems get smaller. And communities get better. That's because we help where help is needed – in our own communities and around the world – with unmatched integrity and energy.

Our 45,000 clubs and more than 1.3 million members make us the world's largest service club organization.

We're also one of the most effective. We get the job done.

We recently:

  • Brought 3,000 volunteers together to build a playground for children of all abilities in California, USA.
  • Fed 60,000 people in a township in South Africa. It's something Lions do there every day.
  • Sent a team of eye surgeons to Honduras to treat more than 100 adults and children.

Everywhere we work, we make friends. With children who need schoolbooks, with seniors who need transportation and with people we may never meet.

We're led by talented, dedicated volunteers from around the world. And, we're supported by the Lions Club International Federation (LCIF), which helps to fund Lions humanitarian projects.

The International Headquarters for both Lions Clubs International and the LCIF is in Oak Brook, Illinois, USA.
